Well…, opening goose season came and went. We met at Jims barn at 6am, and headed to the field. We setup on a cut corn field, and we waited in the long corn field. Geese came in packs of 5-10, and lasted 45 minutes or so. Good times! Out of 4 of us, we got ~12 geese!

We have been scouting this particular spot for weeks now. We have seen 100-200 ducks come in this small pond every time we’ve been out. We finally got to hunt it!
The problem was, the 100-200 ducks cam in all at once. So the first 3-4 shots pretty much scared the whole flock away.
Throughout the morning, small packs of 5-6 ducks came in, and lone ducks came in, which provided us with some nice shooting.
We got 17 ducks in total!
The 2009 Goose season has begun! We got to the barn at around 5:30am, and saddled up and headed to the field for 6am. Got all the decoys setup, and have 30-45 minutes of mingle time before the birds started flying.
It was a great opener! Flocks of 15-20 came in, every 10 minutes, to a total of about 5-6 flocks. With a total of 6 of us, we downed 13 birds.
We also had a visit from an angry neighbor, who threatened to call the police. He was taking pictures of us the whole morning.
