Sept 10, 09 – Met at Jims barn at 5:30. Throughout the week, he wasn’t promising many geese, but that day he says we got a good spot. Got all setup, and had lots of time to mingle. Geese started flying in like crazy. I got a 3 shots out, and 2 geese came down. I wasn’t in the greatest spot, as the geese flew over mostly the others, which is fine, at least I got a couple geese. The neighbour came over and started yelling at us, called the cops, etc, etc. Oh well, we were legal

Sept 04, 08 – Jims barn at 5:45. Left right away to field. Long walk. Jim, Jer and I went to a seperate field. Setup a few decoys. There was a group of geese that came in overtop. Jer, Jim shot a couple shots, 1 injured goose that went down. No shots from me. I wasn’t sure what choke I had in, 3 dots on choke. Had to RUN over to lyle and see what his chokes said. Found out 3 dots is MOD. So OK to shoot, but didnt’ get chance. Geese came in EARLY. Before 7. Jer and I left at 8, i had to work

April 25, 08 – Start of Turkey 2008. Went out with Jim, he dropped me off at a field, long story short, got my first turkey. Check the writeup HERE

Feb 23, 08 – Kevin V, and I went out for some crow. We went to the forest at the back of my parents house. This time we borrowed Jims decoys. The crows weren’t really flying. There wer 2-3 every 5 minutes. They didn’t seem attracted to the decoys.

Feb 16, 08 – Kevin V, Jer and I went out for some crow. We went to the forest at the back of my parents house.They were definitly flying. We didn’t have any decoys. Jer shot once. Thats it. We saw a coyote

Dec 29, 07 – Kevin V, Jer and I went to meet Jim at 830 for a Crow hunt, but Jim was sick.  He gave us some decoys, and some shells.  We went out, but no crows were flying.  Too mild.

Dec 1, 07 – Jim, Don, Lyle, Me – We went to a spot just south of belmont.  Geese have been flying over for DAYS.  Hundreds of them.  Well, for some reason, they didn’t fly over today.  Skunked.  I did manage to walk up under a crow that was sitting in the tree.  He’s now dead.

Nov 10, 07 – Jim, Don, Lyle, John, Kev, I went hunting near the belmont bog. Just west of the bog in the field. They have been flying over this field for days. 2 geese came and that’s it. Lyle shot them

Nov 8, 07 – Went hunting with Kevin at belmont bog. We went up on the ridge. Had a couple flocks come over, took a few shots. Injured 2 but enver found them

Nov 6, 07 – Raining hard again. Second day of hunting. Got there at 330, stayed till 5. Didn’t see anything

Nov 5, 07 – Opening day for deer hunting. Picked up my licence, slugs, and washed my clothing appropriately. Got to field at 3:40pm and bunkered down. Saw ALOT of geese flying directly over. I didn’t hear much, or see anything. 5:43 rolled around and had to pack it in and head to the car. The suspence was awesome, just waiting for something to pop it’s head out of the bush. I think i heard a couple stick crackle around 5:33, but nothing showed up

Nov 1, 07 – Kev and I went to belmont bog. We stopped at the ponds first to see if we see any geese there. Not a soul. We went to the fields and waited for a bit. NOTHING. We saw a big deer running through the fields tho.

Oct 27, 07 – Kev, Jer, Me, Jim, Don, Lyle went to the 5th concession, near westminster public school. We had SOME decoys set out. But it was mostly pass shooting. First bunch came in and Kev and Jer shot but missed. Second set came in and decoyed, Kev and Jer shot and got 1 bird, and prolly wounded 2 more. That was about it for the day.

Oct 20, 07 – Kev, Jim, Don, Dave and I went to braddishes field.  I drove the jeep with the trailer with the decoys in it.  Setup the decoys, but the geese wouldn’t land in them.  we moved the decoys to the other side of the field, no geese came.  Left around 945. 

Oct 18,07 – Kev, Kevin V and I went to belmont bog.  The geese were flying BACK to the bog at 5:30, we couldn’t get under them.  we heard them fly around 710, but they flew in a different direction. 

Oct 15, 07 – Kev and I went to Belmont bog.  Got there late, around 6:18.  Almost right away, bird started flying.  I walked west, up the hill, then north to the entrance.  The geese were too far to shoot.  Then outta nowhere, they came up behind me.  I shot 3 times, crippled 1, and brought down the second.  Kevin was in field 1 below me, and he shot once and downed his.  Good times 

Oct 13, 07 – Kev, Jer and I went to Hullet for pheasant hunt.  It was awesome, walked 10 kms.  Flushed 1 bird.  Dog pointed at 4-5.   

Oct 9, 07 – Kev and I went to belmont bog.  Got there at 5:25pm.  No geese were flying, no geese were making any noise.  At 6:30, 4-5 geese flew over us, but flared at the last second, one of us must’ve been moving.  6:40 more geese fly over, but too far north for a shot.  6:50 100 geese flew over, Kevin moved and they flared.  We left at 7:15. 

Oct 3, 07 - Jim and I went out to Braddishes field (south of manning road).  Setup 6 decoys and waited.  7pm, 4 geese came in and circled, Jim got 1.  Shortly after, 40-50 geese came in, but the wind wasn’t right, and they landed short.  Then shortly after got up, that was it for the night. 

Oct 1, 07 – Kevin and I went out to Belmont Bog again.  It was raining for most of the hunt.  We got there just before 6pm, and saw geese flying all over the place as we pulled in.  We walked to field #3, and geese were flying over our head.  I didn’t shoot because they were flying away from me, Kev was very close to shooting but didn’t prolly for the same reasons as me.  The rest of the night we didn’t see anything flying, but heard ALOT of geese near the ponds.  Not sure if they just weren’t flying, or were in a field beside the pond.  We left just after 7. 

Sept 29, 07 – Went out to Belmont Bog in the evening.  Jer, Kev, Me, Jim, John.  Kev Jer and I setup in the same spot as on the 28th.  Not as many birds were flying this time, but we did get to shoot at a park ofr 15-20 ducks.  Kev got one with 2 shots, I took 1 shot and didn’t down anything.  John went across the stream to the pond, and made the geese get-up, but they flew in a different direction. 

Sept 29, 07 - Truman line & Highbury south, edge of corn field 4 ducks flew outta nowhere in the thick fog at 7 am, dave got 1 jim got another. lots of geese decoyed but me and nate didn’t shoot.  John, Lyle and Jer shot a total of about 20 times about dropped 5 geese.  4 outta 5 were injured geese that dropped a couple hundred yards out, still alive.

Sept 28, 07 – We went out to the belmont bog.  Kev and I were in the middle field, where we setup our chairs close to the middle and waited.  At around 6pm, 30-40 ducks flew over.  I took a shot and missed (45 yards), Kev shot and got 1 duck at about 45 yards.  Lots more duck came flying over, but usually too high.  We had a flock of geese come in at <30 yards, Kev and I both shot twice, but missed somehow!  Saw a deer as well.
