Don't ever go to Turkey Park on Labour Day weekend! Every kid in southern Ontario goes there to celebrate/mourn summer's end and the partying is non-stop. A group of us camped there one year that weekend and I would never go back. The sites were way too open, no privacy at all, the noise was unbelievable and the park staff seemed to be all kids themselves, and there was NO enforcement at all. At 2AM there were still some rowdy parties going on, cars and motorbikes roaring around, it was the weekend in hell for us. No one slept all weekend.

MacGregor is my favorite park in Ontario - lots of privacy, good enforcement, great maintenance, excellent trails....For my purpose, since I organise group outings, I love the fact that it has a number of "double sites" so I can book two sites (ordinarily, you can't book 2 sites under one name) and accomodate up to 12 people. We always seem to go there on a long weekend and even on the Friday of a July 1st weekend, registration takes maybe 10 minutes max, as there's always lots of staff on hand. The beaches are adequate, a little rocky, but the low water levels the past few years are partly responsible, and you sure don't have to go far to find spectacular beaches in & around Port Elgin. My only issue with MacGregor is the raccoons.... too many campers leave a buffet for them so they are always there and looking for the next dinner! I've seen a bear there as well, but very shy - hope it stays that way. Pity some campers are so sloppy, and ruin it for everyone else. And then they have to shoot the bear, because it's learned to find food at campsites.

Wow, just stumbled on this review and delighted to see it. A small group of us have booked at 6 Mile for Thanksgiving, we're kayakers, so we were looking for someplace reasonably close to Halton region, good paddling for 2 days, and decent sites. We've got #112 since at least one of us needs a toilet fairly close. All the lakefront sites were taken but it still looks like a good bet for this time of year. Really looking forward to fall colours and now that I've read this, I plan on looking for the beaver ponds too. Thanks!

Just got back from 3 days at Six Mile Lake (Aug 29-31, 2011). Nate's review is pretty good but I could hear the highway everywhere except at Maple campgrounds. Birch Campground is like sleeping beside a 400 Highway because that is pretty much what you're doing. But it is closed to showers, laundry, flush toilets and Birch beach. SML PP seems to be popular for one night stopovers to someplace else.

Pluses of Six Mile Lake:
- close to Toronto (100 miles) so great for a day trip. Closest point to Muskoka
- great for kids with a nice beach and new playground. Short hiking trails are perfect for little legs or those who can't walk too far. Note there are challenging sections, especially with wet weather on the Milne Trail.
- good quality pedal boats, canoes and kayaks for rent
- David Milne Trail is a short hike but absolutely beautiful
- Good boat launch on a beautiful Muskoka lake. If you're coming from Toronto save on gas hauling your tub up.
- 15 minute paddle south there is a spectacular rock formation which has good dives and is very photogenic
- good camp store with long hours
- well maintained roads and sites
- friendly staff and warden does frequent patrols
- despite all the marshes there were no bug (mosquitoes or flies) around, even on the marsh hikes. The staff confirmed that August has been pretty much bug free, even Maple CG.
- lakefront campsites are really nice.
- lots of wildlife

Minuses:
- pit toilets stink pretty bad (flush ones are fine)
- shower is hot water challenged and the shower heads spray all over the place. We kept our clothes etc outside while we showered to keep them dry.
- Highway 400- lots of road noise, especially with a west wind.

I just took and passed my M2 Exit, I was so nervous I hadn't slept good all week. The thursday night parking lot test started out rough but the instructors were great. I've had my own bike for 3 years BUT I badly sprained my ankle just b4 we bought the bike but it was a couldn't turn down price. One summer gone from an ailment, than I come down with tennis elbow in the right arm and can't ride the next summer and a half. My M2 expires may 2012 so I thought if there's any chance at all of me passing it's through a college course. I'm so glad I did the senior instructor is recouping from a broken foot and they both made they course fun and I was able to relax and enjoy the class. I've always used the front brake not only do they teach you how well feathering the back brake gives you so much more control of your bike, it was all the small but very important things that I'd never even thought of until taking the course. All the safety tip that you pick up is unreal. My instructors were always joking with us they would point out weird things we were doing but they did it with such ease that I didn't feel uncomfortable. We never knew what the route would be for the test, Im from Brampton so I couldn't tell you where I drove. I know I wasn't on the 401, I beleive it was exiter. I took the course with my sister-in-law who is from london area and refused to come to the GTA to take the course. I gave in and went to a city I don't know and passed with 13 points against me. My test was at 7:15 which was great, no one else on the road.
