January 25th, 2010 No comments

Tessa got me Jann Arden tickets for Christmas this year! I’ve always been a fan, and enjoyed the concert alot! She recently released a new album, which she did 2-3 songs from, and the majority of her songs were from her previous albums. Great show!

Thanksgiving 2009 – Bancroft, Meyer Cottage

October 21st, 2009 No comments

Usually, every Thanksgiving, we head up to my Aunt Ruths cottage, and spend the weekend. This year was no different. The weather was a little rainy, but bareable. We had some nice days. We even visited the Calabogie racetrack and watched a couple cars go around. The last couple days we headed to the Meyer Cottage and spent a night there. Then home. Great weekend!

Labour Day Weekend Cottaging

September 7th, 2009 No comments

Went up to the cottage for Labour Day Weekend.  Left thursday afternoon, and stayed till Monday afternoon.  The weather was so VERY AWESOME, and had a great time hanging with family and friends.

Got to do some boating, skiing, knee boarding, and atv’ing.  Also did alot swimming, and relaxing.  I helped Andy with moving some wood, fixing part of his deck.  And the most memorable moment for me, was using the John Deere tractor to move gravel from one location, into the forest where he was building his shed.  I’ve always wanted to use a bulldozer / tractor to do work, and finally had the chance.  LOVED IT!  I could do it all day.  It’s like a machine, that is an extension of your arms!  See the picture below.

It was an awesome weekend to wind down the summer!

Fanshawe Conservation Area Camping

August 23rd, 2009 No comments

This summer I wanted to camp as much as possible.. so, a few of us booked a spot at Fanshawe for the weekend.  Firstly, the weather was AWESOME!  26-27 degrees the whole weekend, and perfectly sunny skies!

We got a good game of volleyball in as well, and a few games of horseshoes!  Awesome weekend overall!

Next camping adventure?  Cottage labour day weekend, then back to the Pinery after that!

Cottage for the Long Weekend!

August 3rd, 2009 No comments

Just got back from up north.  I had a BLAST!  Lots of swimming, campfires, ATV’ing, rockjumping, and of course hanging with family and friends!

The highlight of the trip was jumping off the rocks at the Big Chute.  The water hasn’t been running when I’ve been up there for years, and now that it was running, Jumping into the rapids was awesome!

Good times!

Six Mile Lake & Pinery Provincial Park

July 26th, 2009 5 comments

This post is just my BLOG post for Six Mile Lake. For my official review of Six Mile Lake, click HERE

I’ll start with Six Mile Lake Provincial Park.  This park was awesome!  It’s right near where we used to own a cottage, so I was very familiar with the area.  Our site was VERY private.  There was a small driveway that went to our site, and it was situated on a nice open rock, with lots of room for picnic tables, and tents, etc.  It was a open site, so there wasn’t much shade.  From our site, we couldn’t even see the camp road, or any other campsites.

Other sites seemed pretty private as well, some sites were even up on a hill, overlooking a pond. The park was very nice and clean, but the main problem was there were no flushing toilets near the sites.  You had to go to the beach area, or front gate for that.  The beaches were also pretty mediocre.

We didn’t spend much time throughout the day in the park.  We went to the cottage and did alot of swimming, and some 4×4’ing with the ATV.  We also visited BALA, and Port Carling (really nice small port towns).

That’s about it.  Had a great relaxing time!

IMG_0577IMG_0580IMG_0589IMG_0599IMG_0606IMG_0612IMG_0633IMG_0635IMG_0638IMG_0641IMG_0658IMG_0686IMG_0687IMG_0701IMG_0734IMG_0738

The second spot was Pinery.  We all had a great time.  Mostly sat at the campsite and talked, but we did go to the beach a couple times, on walks, etc, etc.  The campfires at night were decent.  Our campsite was OK, a little close to the neighbors.  We also had a tent trailer with us, which was awesome!  Waaay better then a tent. I even played my first game of Horseshoes! (next goal wins!). I enjoyed the Pinery. Ate like a king!

There will be more camping, and more cottaging to come!

Cottaging.. Boating.. Fishing.. Racing.. 4×4’ing.. Swimming.. Wedding Crashing!

July 6th, 2009 No comments

Booked a few days off and decided to head up north.  I stayed with My uncle at his cottage for a few days.  It consisted of 4×4’ing on his ATV, Swimming in the lake, hiking, and mostly relaxing.  I then crashed a wedding in GTA with a friend of mine.  I think this was the first wedding that I went to that I didn’t know a single person.  But it was fun! And met a few people there! (Even got to color in a Xena: Warrior Princess coloring book!… inside joke).  The next day was back at the cottage next door.  We had a nice campfire, did some boating, 4×4’ing again, and of course more swimming.  I almost didn’t come home!

I love the cottage country, and will definitely be in the area again in the next few weeks!

The drive up to the cottage was also worth mentioning.  I took the back way, through Hockley valley, and Creemore.  I just love exploring new towns, and new back roads, etc.  I even came up on a Canada Day Parade!  I visited the Beer Brewery in Creemore, and had a small tour of their Brewery.  It was awesome!  The roads were incredible in that area, and Jocelyn did amazing on the nice twisty roads! (350z).

Anyways.. check out the pics below.

Deals Gap Trip (With our route in Google Maps)

May 30th, 2009 4 comments

This is going to be a slightly long post!  I’ll try and describe the daily events as best as I can remember.  I will post pictures from each day, as well as post the routes (from my GPS) that we took for that day.

Click here for the full directory of pics (Over 500).

DAY 1:

Kevin and I loaded the bike onto the trailer at noon, then started off at my parents house in London, at approximately 3pm.  We were ahead of schedule!  We started off down the 401, towards Windsor.  The plan was to drive all afternoon/evening, and through the night, and arrive at the cabin early morning, ready to ride for the day!  The trip down was pretty uneventful.  We stopped at the duty free shop, 2-3 gas breaks, 1 meal break, and 1 Wal-Mart (for groceries) break.

IMG_7720IMG_7721IMG_7722IMG_7723IMG_7724

We arrived at the Gap around 3:30am, and it was pouring rain.  With a trailer, loaded with bikes, you can’t go very fast through the gap, especially in the rain!  It took us about 1 hour, 45 minutes to get through the gap, through the back roads, and to our cabin.  We arrived at the cabin at around 5:45am.  We immediately fell asleep, and within about 2 minutes, a freakin rooster started his morning calls, and woke us up.  So we had to sleep, while a rooster was 5 feet away.  We slept in the car till about 7:30 or so.  We both got out, and explored the area, and waited for the owner to arrive, to let us into the cabin.  I won’t go into too many details about this day, as it was pretty bland.  It rained all day, and we were all VERY tired.  We just chilled out in the cabins, and went to bed early.

DAY 2:

We got up around 9am, got the bikes gassed up, and headed out.  First thing we did was  stop of at wheelers, so someone could fix their clutch cable.  It’s a small motorcycle shop in the Deals Gap area.  Then we headed to Deals Gap.  I have never seen such an amazing road.  You dorve into the resort, hungout with some fellow riders, then drove the gap, then hungout on the other side, till you wanted to come back.  We did the Gap a couple times, then headed east to the Fontana Dam, then we headed to the Cherohola Parkway.  This road was one of my favorite roads, it wound through the mountains, and got up for around 5,000ft.  One of our riders had a slight mishap, and went down through the corner, and hit a guard rail.  He was quite injured, and had to be flown out via Helicopter.  He was riding a brand new Kawasaki ZX-14 (pictures below).  We waited a couple hours for details on weather he was alright, then headed back to the cabin for some downtime.  The rest of the night was spent eating dinner, watching some TV, and hanging out.

DAY 2:

We decided to take a nice and slow, scenic, jeans and jacket ride today.  We headed out late morning, and went through the gap, then went on a road called the Foothills Parkway.  This road went up into the mountains, surrounding the park.  We found an awesome lookout point, where we lined the bikes up, and enjoyed the scenery.  The plan was then to go to a town north of the park, but we decided to visit Geoff in the hospital instead.  After the hospital visit, we drove back down towards the gap, through the gap, and back to the cabins.  Not to much going on this day.

DAY 3:

Leathers back on, we headed through the gap, where i stopped half way and took a few pictures of our group, and others.  I had trouble with my camera, as I was in the shade mostly, but my subjects were in the sun, and the camera had trouble with the amount of light.  So some pictures are dark, some of over-exposed.  After that, a few people decided to go swimming.  We found a nice spot right on the side of the road.  After that, we headed up the foothills parkway again, then into a town called Pigeon Forge.  We ate at a buffet restaurant, then headed out south, through the park.  The road was called Highway 441, and the scenic views were amazing!  Mountains everywhere!  Once we got to the bottom of the park, we headed east back to our cabins.  Made supper, had a campfire, and chilled out.

DAY 4: (Last day of riding)

Some of the guys wanted to head to the gap to go through it a bunch of times, but Kevin, Fab and I decided to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway.  It took about 45 minutes to get there, but was definitely worth it.  This was, by far, the best road of the week.  We got up to 6000 ft, and the views were absolutely amazing.  Living in London my whole life, I have never seen mountains like these.  The road was amazing, so winding, and the pavement was awesome.  The 3 of us let loose for a few kilometers, and really ripped it up.  Luckily we slowed down for the hairpin corner with the boulders scattered on the road!  We turned around halfway down the road, got some lunch in a nearby city, and headed back to the gap resort.  We watched the bikes for a little while, then headed back to the resort.  We packed up our stuff a bit, and got an early nights sleep for the ride home tomorrow.

DAY 5:

We packed the bikes up at 7am, and was out the door by 8am.  The road home was fairly boring, and uneventful.  We arrived in London at my parents house around 9:30pm.  It was nice to get home!

CONCLUSION:

I had a blast!  It was awesome to get away for a week, with some good friends.  The roads were spectacular!  The scenery was spectacular!  Makes me want to buy another bike!  I would definitely go back next year!
